Little Break

Noticed I haven't been doing much?

I've been sicky again! It's going to be quite some time before I am better so I made a decision to put everything on hold. This is really hard for me because I am all about everything I do. I haven't been able to do any artwork, new home projects and art shows because of what's going on. My doctor is still trying to pinpoint the exact problem and get my body back to tip top sawing, painting and paper cutting status. So for right now that's my main focus...thanks for keeping up with me. Once I get back to being me I have so much planned to do... you're just going to LOVE it!

Topiary DIY Love

I wanted some topiary's I found at a home decor store but they were $149.00 each...ouch, considering I needed two. So me being me I went on the hunt and I ran across these canisters for $5.00 each, on sale!! Then I found these metal thing-a-ma-bobs at Hobby Lobby for $10.00 each. So I was up to $15.00 each which was awesome because I still needed the ivy. I found some super cheap at Michael's because they were on clearance.

my Ivy...

my canister and metal thingy...

I used Epoxy to attach them together...

then I ran the ivy around and around and ta-da!...my two topiary's for $21.00 each!

Cuteness!

I wanted to share with you the little shelf I keep my thread, pincushions and such on. I bought this drawer at an old antique/junk store for $5.00! I had to patch some dings then painted it white. This shelf just makes me really happy.

Painting My Studio With My Ryan

After my studio switch I decided to do some painting...lots and lots of painting. I painted the walls this great light blue color (pictures don't show how pretty it is). Then I ran across The Selvedge Yard's blog and just knew I wanted to create something like what was created in a dressing room at a Lilly Pulitzer's store in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

see more about the designers behind the dressing rooms at The Selvedge Yard's blog.

I started with my pretty blue...

then decided to mark off the squares so I was not all over the wall...

let the painting begin...

my eight year old son Ryan wanted to help me so we worked together...

I used a marker to write the names of the paint on the squares because it was much easier than using a paint brush. Plus the walls are all bumpy so I knew it would be smarter to use a marker...trust me on this!

I decided not to be a perfectionist and did the squares freehand and kinda loosey goosey. Especially handy while working with an eight year old!!

Lastly I decided to add some black outlines in the squares. No rhyme or reason to the lines which made messing up impossible.

Now I have twelve happy squares on my wall with great names like Razzleberry, banana yellow, mango, blueberry blue, valentine pink, sunflower yellow...gotta love that!

Little Wall Big Impact

Seems like the weeks are rolling by and school will be out next week here in Houston! I haven't posted in awhile because I have been sick with Thyroid problems. That little butterfly shaped gland in the lower part of our neck is really giving me a hard time. I think I am on the road to recovery and my doctor tells me (with my medicine) I should be my nutty self in about six weeks. Yay! for that.

I have had some changes in my home which have affected my workspace. With the help of my wonderful husband my studio has changed from one side of my home to the other. At first I was not the happiest girl but I have come to like it more in its new location (I am blessed that I can even have my own studio at home so no gripes here!) Anyhoo, I am in the process of painting and arranging everything, plus I have pictures to share later.

The picture above is the little wall outside my studio doorway. I have been collecting "J" for years but decided to put only a few of them up.

This is the "J" I made using some old colored pencils I had. I got the idea to do this from the magazine Creating Keepsakes which had photo's of Ali Edwards workspace in it. I can't remember what issue it was in but I do know it's been years and years ago. If I remember correctly a friend made her an "A" and I loved it so much I just had to make one for myself.

Catslife Press Rubber Stamps

I found these great Catslife Press rubber stamps and I thought I would share with you some funky goodness...

"Art Helps Me Breathe" SO TRUE for me!!

How funny is the "agree to read" stamp? I especially enjoy getting letters in the mail from friends and family.
